How is Moodsonic different from sound masking?

How does the Moodsonic system work?

The Moodsonic platform consists of three main components:

Why does Moodsonic generate sound locally instead of streaming?

Moodsonic's Soundscaping Engine runs directly on the devices in your space—not in the cloud. This architecture provides critical advantages:

How does Moodsonic protect privacy?

This is fundamentally different from streaming or playing audio files:

Moodsonic Control: Dashboard for end users to browse soundscapes, preview themes, adjust volume, change adaptive settings, and schedule soundscapes across zones.
Moodsonic Insights: Analytics platform providing acoustic metrics, activity analysis, historical trends, and AI-generated insights to understand how your space sounds and performs.
Moodsonic Design: Used to create system specifications, upload floor plans, design zones, and generate equipment lists. A public Design & Estimate tool is available on the website for preliminary designs; detailed specifications are created internally for approved quotes.
Moodsonic Author: The composition tool used internally to create Moodsonic's soundscape library. While end users don't interact with Author directly, it's the foundation of what makes Moodsonic's soundscapes unique.

What is the Soundscaping Engine?

The Soundscaping Engine is the core software that runs on Moodsonic devices, bringing soundscapes to life in your environment. Key capabilities include:

Generative playback: Plays soundscapes as layered, generative systems rather than fixed audio files, ensuring environments feel natural and continuously evolving
Real-time adaptation: Adjusts soundscapes based on time of day, noise levels, occupancy, and other contextual inputs—not just volume, but density, energy, and character

What is Moodsonic Author?

Author is Moodsonic's internal composition tool—purpose-built for creating soundscapes designed to work in buildings.

Unlike traditional audio production, Author creates soundscapes as dynamic systems, not static recordings:

Layered building blocks: Soundscapes are constructed from many small sound elements (individual bird calls, water textures, subtle environmental sounds) that remain dynamic and variable
Adjustable characteristics: Each element has parameters like gain, density, probability, and timing that the Soundscaping Engine interprets in real time
Contextual design: Soundscapes are authored to evolve across the day, respond to environmental conditions, and adapt to different space types
Sensor-responsive behaviors: Author defines how soundscapes should respond to inputs like noise levels or occupancy

This approach is why Moodsonic's soundscapes never loop and can adapt intelligently to changing conditions—they're designed from the ground up as living systems, not recordings.

While you won't use Author yourself, the soundscapes you experience through the Control app are the result of this specialized composition process.

What is the Moodsonic Insights dashboard?

Moodsonic Insights aggregates acoustic data from sensors across your deployment and visualizes it through interactive dashboards. Features include:

Moodsonic offers two hardware models:

Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional (Distributed) - B140M Generative Amplifier: PoE-powered ceiling device running Moodsonic's OS. One unit per zone; drives passive speakers directly. - Sensor: Environmental sensor with multi-mic array for adaptive features. - BCS100 Ceiling Speaker: In-ceiling passive speaker, sold in pairs. - BCS110P Pendant Speaker: Pendant-mount passive speaker for spaces where ceiling mounting isn't suitable.

Moodsonic for Centralized PA (Third-party amplification) - MS400 Moodsonic Source: Compact device running Moodsonic's OS, outputting up to 16 stereo zones over Dante/AES67 or a single analog zone. - MIS301 PoE Sensor: Per-zone sensor for sound level monitoring and adaptivity.

How many devices do I need?

The number of devices depends on your space layout, ceiling height, and acoustic goals. The Design & Estimate tool generates a recommended equipment list based on your floor plan.

As a rough guide, one B140M serves a single zone and typically covers an open area of 50–100 m² (500–1,000 sq ft), depending on ceiling height and speaker count.

Where can I buy Moodsonic hardware?

All Moodsonic projects begin with a design. Use the Design & Estimate tool to create your system specification, then submit it for review. Once your design is approved, we'll provide a formal quote and can facilitate hardware procurement through a local partner.

This ensures your system is correctly specified before procurement and installation.

Does Moodsonic provide hardware warranty?

Hardware manufacturing, warranty, and physical replacement are provided by the device manufacturer—not by Moodsonic. For Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional products, hardware warranty is handled by Bluesound Professional.

Moodsonic provides platform-level support and coordinates diagnostics and escalation through the Moodsonic platform.

How is Moodsonic priced?

Moodsonic uses per-square-foot annual subscription pricing, designed to scale predictably with building size. Hardware is priced separately and purchased through distribution partners.

Because pricing depends on your specific space—zone count, area, system architecture, and subscription tier—the best way to get an accurate estimate is to create a design for your project.

How do I get a price estimate?

There are two ways to get an estimate:

Does hardware cost extra?

Yes. Hardware is purchased separately from the subscription, typically through our distribution partners or your AV integrator.

The Design & Estimate tool generates a hardware specification based on your floor plan and zone layout. Once you submit your design for review, we'll provide a complete quote including hardware.

Installation & Setup

Who installs Moodsonic?

Moodsonic is typically installed by AV integrators or qualified installation partners. Installation involves mounting speakers and devices, running cabling (often just PoE), and commissioning the system via the Moodsonic platform.

Do I need a special network?

Moodsonic devices require network connectivity (wired Ethernet, typically via PoE). For Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional, each B140M requires a single PoE network port. Network requirements will be outlined in your system design.

No special VLANs or multicast configuration is required for the MS × Bluesound Professional solution. Centralized PA deployments using Dante/AES67 may have additional network requirements.

How long does installation take?

Installation time varies by project size. A single-zone deployment can often be completed in a few hours. Multi-zone installations across a floor or building typically take one to several days depending on infrastructure readiness.

Can I install Moodsonic in an existing building?

Yes. Moodsonic can be installed in new construction, renovations, and existing buildings. For existing buildings with centralized PA systems, the MSM200 can integrate with your current audio infrastructure.

How do I get started with a new project?

Create a design: Use the Design & Estimate tool to upload your floor plan, define zones, and explore system options—or contact sales to request we design it for you.
Submit for review: Once you're happy with your preliminary design, submit it for review. We'll validate the design and provide a formal quote.
Procure hardware: Hardware is ordered through the Bluesound Professional distribution network, typically via your AV integrator.

What determines my support tier?

Your support tier is determined by your system architecture, not by a service level you choose:

Gold Platform Support (Included): Systems deployed using Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional hardware include Gold Platform Support as standard.
Silver Platform Support: Centralized PA and mixed-vendor systems receive Silver Platform Support.

What's the difference between Gold and Silver Platform Support?

The difference comes down to system visibility. With Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional systems (Gold), we have complete insight into device health, connectivity, and performance—enabling proactive monitoring, faster diagnosis, and coordinated escalation with Bluesound Professional.

With Centralized PA integrations (Silver), our visibility is limited to Moodsonic devices; issues in third-party amplifiers, DSPs, or cabling may require your AV integrator's involvement.

Platform support tiers reflect the diagnostic visibility and integration capabilities of your system architecture. Gold Platform Support requires the tightly integrated Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional hardware to enable deep diagnostics and coordinated escalation.

Upgrading to Gold Platform Support would require migrating to the Moodsonic Powered by Bluesound Professional architecture.

Who do I contact if something isn't working?

In a Centralized PA system, third-party components sit between our devices and your speakers, limiting what we can see and diagnose remotely.

How do I get support?

Who can sell and install Moodsonic?

Moodsonic is sold and installed by AV integrators, acoustic consultants, workplace consultants, and other channel partners. We work with partners globally to design, specify, install, and support Moodsonic deployments.
